GIS GPS Closest Hit Directions

I would like to make an App that looks for one type of company, say flower shops.
The iPhone will return which flower shops are closest using GIS/GPS and then maybe transfer that to the Maps application to get directions.
Can someone give me a headsup on what I should be looking at?

No, I have not had much luck trying to get info on this. I know it can be done as there are some great apps using it to good affect.

You might want to follow the Opening the maps app with a given route/direction thread. There's some good info in there. I figure I'm about 50% done. Have most of the pieces, but still trying to figure out how they go together.
