Is there any way to get the System Volume or the iPod app Volume?

In my app, I have a UISlider which controls the volume of the music that is currently playing. What I need to do is, when the view loads, it will get the current volume from either the System Volume or the iPod Volume (Just some type of value for the volume that the user has selected earlier on their phone)

Does anyone know if this is possible?
