Views to Views within a single Tab Bar Item

I'm trying to get my first app done and this site has been tremendous in getting as far as I have so thanks for everyones feed back. My question is this:

In a tab bar view, I have a button that I want to lead to a new page with a button that takes the user to another page with a button. But, I want to do this all within one tab item. I have it sort of working now but I am using a Modal and that is hiding my tab bar.

Here is a diagram of what I'm doing and where I'm at. Any help at all would be appreciated.

So I keep researching and from what i can see, I have to make this top row a navigationController. Then I need to somehow make the top bar go away... then I just keep adding pages?

Can I fully customize a navigation control and can I have like ten pages in that navigationController?
