Default API for GPS?

Is the Core Location API all there is as far as access to the geo-location/GPS functionality of the iPhone?

iPhone Dev Center

I tried this application (MotionXâ„¢ by Fullpower) and it seems to have access to more than what is available (e.g. signal strength). Is there another API that I'm missing?

Also, how do you know if the iphone is using the cell tower/geo-location or satellite GPS?

Thanks

All of that looks pretty standard to me. The signal strength could be an inverse relation to accuracy.

OK, thanks. I just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing anything.

It's pretty common to use the cell towers to assist with location. You need fewer visible satellites that way. I'd be surprised if the iphone does otherwise.
