I'd be inclined to agree. What you are doing is quite a bit more complex than basic tutorials. And mem management is a basic skill you will need. Maybe take a step back and take your time. There are no quick ways around learning memory management on iPhone. It is also quite likely that simply learning about it will help you understand your issue better. It does sound memory related.
