Default NSUserDefaults Safety

Hello! How safe is it to store a login and password in NSUserDefaults? How safe is it to store ANYTHING in NSUserDefaults for that matter? Any input would be greatly appreciated.

On a normal device you can't really get at it, but if it's jailbroken the plist file is easy to read and change, it is not encrypted in anyway, so it's probably not safe for usernames and passwords unless when you save it, you do some sort of encryption hash and then save that

Gotcha. What would be the *safest* possible way to save a username/password?

I haven't had the need to use it yet, but I think that's what Keychain is for: Keychain Services Programming Guide
