How to use GPS/geolocation data

Does anyone know of any open source API for translating the lat/longitude GPS data from the iphone into intelligible locations (cities, states, countries, etc)? I would like to be able to present to users visually or in laymen's terms where they are using my app.

Any sort of insight into this would be great.
