Wifi for location....

I know that the corelocation stores location information from gps sats, cell towers, and wifi hubs.... but i was wondering, if another phone is emitting a wifi signal, can the iphone base its location on that? I can figure out the details i guess, i just want to know if it can be done before wasting every grueling hour of my life trying to solve an unsolvable problem.

It's hard to prove a negative, but as far as I know that won't work. The iPhone doesn't present a wifi network for the other device to connect to, and it doesn't transmit the location to other nearby phones.

As you said you only get location information from WiFi, cell towers, and GPS. If you can't get a signal from any you're SOL.

However, if both devices were running your app they could make a bluetooth connection and swap whatever data you like. For example a phone could transmit location data to a nearby ipad or ipod touch.
