As I said in another thread, I need to update an app that uses the microphone. Previously I could check "iPhone or iPod 2nd Generation or later" in iTunes Connect when uploading the binary, and I would be covered because only the iPod 1G does not support a microphone. But now Apple is asking us to specify device requirements with the UIRequiredDeviceCapabilities key in info.plist. So I specified "microphone" in that key.
But Apple automatically rejected my binary saying that I can't specify device requirements in an update that will disallow devices that were previously allowed. So if I take off that "microphone" requirement, then my app will appear to be available for the iPod 1G. How am I supposed to handle this?
Also, I noticed that in the App Store they no longer bother saying "iPod 2nd generation or later", even for apps that used to have that qualifier on the device requirements. I looked through several of the musical instrument tuners, which obviously use the microphone, and they all say "iPod" without qualification. Is this part of the move to stop supporting iOS2.x devices? I don't have an iPod 1G, but isn't is possible to upgrade them to at least iOS 3.0? (That, by the way, is my deployment target minimum OS).
I have run across the same problem. Not only has apple declared that my apps that did not used to support the 1st gen ipod touch now do, but they did so without so much as notifying me that they were doing this. Also, they have arbitrarily declared that my apps now support ipad (even though they don't), again, without notice.

I had the problem that my app Canupa Band deluxe actually did run on an 1st gen iPod touch but when I submitted it to the store it wasn't supported. Did that change now?
gonk, do you want to test my app on your 1st gen device? I'd give you a promo code... please PM me.
Oh and the iPad-support just means, that your app runs on the iPad. If its not an universal or native iPad-app, it will run in 1x iPhone resolution resp. 2x-zoom. But you're able to run the app, so the store calls it "iPad compatible"...
cheers
