provision profile cannot be played on iPhone

I have sent an ad-hoc provisioning profile to a user to test my app - and they are following steps which I have done with other users before... only this time it's not working.

I have compiled the app with the right profile and have instructed them to drag the .app file and the mobileprovision file on to their itunes. When the user is syncing, they get the error message

"My_Ad_Hoc_Provisioning_profile.mobileprovisio n" was not copied to the iphone "jack's iPhone" because it cannot be played on this iphone.

Please help me what is the problem ?

Weird! Seems like iTunes is identifying the profile as a song or something... try drag & dropping the app & profile onto Library>Applications....
It should be able to read the correct profile extension!
