Saving to an animated gif

I've seen there are a few apps out there that can create animated gifs, is there an easy way to do this, or do you have to program the export bit by bit? I've been trying that in c# and I can't get it to work quite right. Looking for some insight here.

You could just animate the images in the code itself, if that's what you're trying to do.

I'd prefer to use an actual animated gif, so that it can be used outside of this app.
