Default REJECTED

My app was rejected today, after almost-to-the-hour 7 days. It was rejected due to "limited user functionality"... They didn't get the fact that the whole point of my app is to provide zero functionality- and thus zero chance to not get the result you desire- with one click. This app was my first foray into the app store and app development, and is titled FlahsLite- which is a utility providing a maximum amount of light output with no config. I guess I will add some "features" and resubmit. Its not like I was trying to sell it.

I understand how they can do this, the app store is already filled with 43633456435634563465436 flashlight apps that just display a white screen, some of them allow you to change screen color or turn on a strobe light. So they don't want to add an app that has no user options or interaction when there are already a ton of them in the appstore.

They see having a ton of apps that do the same thing with no added functionality as just cluttering up the app store.

I totally understand where they are coming from. Ironically enough I felt guilty for its simplicity when I first submitted it. Determined to have an app in the store, I just resubmitted another binary that is beefed-up and has more functionality. I wonder where their "not enough"/Acceptable line is?

Submitted another update last night ... so the clock is ticking. I'm hoping to see the review times start to settle into a 'reasonable' range now that the initial 3.0 deluge is over (I think)

Uh...shouldn't that be nervous "tics" and "Touret's" syndrome?

But I get your point.

Mine got rejected after 29 days of waiting for a really ridiculously petty reason. I can't post the reason yet but will once I get approval, and will give you a whole new pothole to watch out for. I will have to resubmit. The reason is so petty that it really makes the whole system suspect.

It's annoying that I have an app that's been waiting for 2 months. I got the extra time email, but it's ridiculous that some apps take 7 days, and mine, which isn't something that would take hours to review, is just sitting there. I don't have Pinch Analytics on it, either, and I don't want to reject the binary just to add that.

I never got the courtesy of an "extra time" email.

They just sat on it for 29 days and rejected it for a really petty reason.

A reason that they could have easily "corrected" on their side, or had me do through Itunes.

The binary was fine...no problems at all.

And yet, they kicked me to the end of the line once again with a "please submit new binary".

Once Android is up and running sufficiently, I am done with Apple.

Apple is either run by anally retentive Nazis or just plain idiots.

The Mac software has so many bugs in it, it would make Bill Gates blush.

And that expensive MacBook Pro I bought?

A total POS.

Default HoursTracker live after 15 days

My first app, HoursTracker, is finally live after 15 days! I had a rejection for a crash, submitted a fix on July 2. It took about 11 days after the fix.

Exciting!

Default XPilot live after 14 days

Our first app, XPilot was submitted June 30, went live early this morning. Not as bad as I'd feared, and I'm relieved there were no rejections over trivial issues we'd overlooked; but it still felt like 14 months rather than 14 days. Now the promotion push starts... that and, well, more waiting to see how it does...

Default Just submitted my first app

I just submitted my first app about an hour ago... now awaiting my first rejection so I can get on with life
Well reading around it seems my app is likely to be rejected. The 57pix icon is slightly different than the 512px icon (the big one has the name of the app on it) and it's really just dedicated to displaying one page (wikipedia random article). Well hopefully Apple will think it is novel enough to accept it.

Submit another app last Sunday so will see how long that one takes, slightly more complexed in what it does.

Default unbelievable!

Hi, I hope someone in management at Apple reads these posts, the rejection I received today was unbelievable . It has been extremely hard to get Scoreloop enabled apps approved but I finally added enough warning text on the startup screens of three apps to satisfy the reviewers and get on the app store, ( Apollo XI, Tornado Alley & Bot Hive). I have 2 apps in review, after waiting 6 days they rejected one of them for the same reason that they initially rejected the other three...
-------------------------------------
Dear Tech Center Labs,

Your application, Splashdown, Apollo Command Module, 3-D (for Amber/Blue glasses), cannot be posted to the App Store because it violates section 3.3.6 of the iPhone Developer Program License Agreement:

"Any form of user or device data collection, or image, picture or voice capture or recording performed by the Application (collectively “Recordings”), and any form of user data, content or information processing, maintenance, uploading, syncing, or transmission performed by the Application (collectively "Transmissions") must comply with all applicable privacy laws and regulations as well as any Apple program requirements related to such aspects, including but not limited to any notice or consent requirements. In particular, a reasonably conspicuous audio, visual, or other indicator must be displayed to the user as part of the Application to indicate that a Recording is taking place."

Please make it clear to the user that their personal user data is being uploaded to your server, and obtain their consent before submission.

In order for your application to be reconsidered for the App Store, please resolve this issue and upload your new binary to iTunes Connect.

Regards,

iPhone Developer Program

But wait..., this app has the same text on the startup screen as the other reviewers required before they approved my three other Scoreloop enabled apps! ???

Default Two apps

Submitted two apps today. One was a previously rejected one, the other a pretty useful app. The useful one I successfully coded and prepared for the store in less than 24 hours. I am so proud. Now, lets see how things go, shall we?

submitted my first app on the 28th June, was rejected 14th July due to a crash (which I had completely missed!), fixed and uploaded yesterday.
Fingers crossed this time all will be ok.

Does anyone know if its likely that the reviewers stop after finding a crash, tell you about it, then wait for a new binary before finding other potential problems? or do they test everything thoroughly and then let you know about all of them at the same time?

the crash they produced is not possible with normal usage, they really had to work hard at producing all possible scenarious to re-produce it. (which is a really good thing, I hate apps that crash!)

The reviewers being as busy as they are, will test and wait for the first bug. They will then kick it back to you, and make you resubmit. Then if they find another bug, they will do the same again. The biggest complaint has been that they do not test and list ALL problems so that you can solve them in one step....no, they make you jump through multiple hoops.

I haven't had the problems with that, but have had my latest binary rejected for another asinine reason. You now have to be able to read the reviewers mind...cultural and moral background to make sure that you and he think alike.

Here's a link.

This is not my app, but you get the idea...lots of developers are being hit with this cr*p now.

Enjoy

I'm not real familiar with Scoreloop, but on the screen where you click "Submit Score" can you put some text in there warning the user they are uploading their score to a public server or something like that? Maybe they just want you to have the warning where the user is actually clicking the submit button.

Default 2 Block - Action Puzzle Game

So just wanted to post here that I've submitted my app for review

2 Block
It's a block dropping game, along the lines of tetris/columns/dr mario/puzzlefighter. It's made so you can play in short or long sessions, has it's own in game music, quick load times, highscores

In an update which I'll put up almost right after it goes live, you can play your music and load the game and it won't stop (currently stops, and you have to double tap home to resume your own music) and online leaderboard. Both are almost fully implemented in my newer tests but wanna get 1.0 out there first =)

Just also want to say a thanks to myersn024 for all his tutorials on helping me get started =)

Hope you all check it out when you get the chance =) I'll post another link when it goes live

Thanks, I might end up having to do that. What really upsets me is the inconsistency of the reviewers, Monster Mash (someone else's game) is scoreloop enabled and was just approved a few days ago. It doesn't have ANY text or warnings about uploading to a server.

Wow, that's terrible. We're just about to submit a Scoreloop enabled app for approval. We have already implemented a custom pop-up to give the user more control over whether to submit their scores. Any other tips for getting the app past the reviewers?

Thanks for flagging this.

The problem is that you get a different reviewer each time you resubmit your binary.

So what works for one reviewer is offensive or nogo for another.

It's a sh*tty system.

What should happen is that the original reviewer should keep your file, and review your new binary...thereby avoiding the fickle review process. The original reviewer would be in effect your account rep. That way, the madness that is the app review process would be greatly eased.

Of course, it doesn't matter that Steve and the Apple Gang, worth Billions could give a sh*t about any of this.

They already treat developers like dirt, and are only happy to take your money and enrich their shareholders.

Much of this has already been documented on the web...

I have a file folder with tons of links that show just how bad the problem is.

Apple needs some serious competition.

Once they do, they may just treat developers better.

I think if you are using the latest Scoreloop bundle they have added text to there pop-up window to deal with apple's concerns but I think it still depends on the reviewer and what kind of a day they are having.

You could have a look at the startup screen on Tornado Alley (free) to see what my reviewer accepted... iTunes Store

LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You got 59,000 apps out there all screaming for attention.

If its a free app, you may get some downloads.

If it's $.99 or higher, you won't see much action because it will get lost in the Lottery shuffle.

I have downloaded a ton of games, and most are junk...they either are poorly written or are poorly conceived.

Haven't seen your game yet, but will check it out.

My point on all this.

The early gold rush days are over. You now need to do some serious advertising and promotion to get your app seen. Or you have to be a BIG company...with a ton of resources to get noticed. Posting it on this board won't do it.

You might get lucky with something like The Moron Test...but for the most part, there are simply too many copycat games out there, with many of them just not working right or barely playable.

This is true, I am about a year late on joining this scene

On a side note, are there a lot of puzzle games like these? I really haven't seen too many on the app store, perhaps too simple for people? also what was the "LOL!!!!!!!!!" for?

I agree marketing is gonna be the biggest hurdle, and I don't expect millions of people to follow it from this forum, but you know I'll do my best to get however many people I can to check it out and get feed back from. It's the least of the advertising that I can put forth without being a huge company.
