Default "unable to locate a suitable developer disk image" ?

Hello,

On the new iTouch (iTouch 2 with speakers) is anyone getting this message when opening XCode.

"unable to locate a suitable developer disk image"

I found instructions that said:

You will need to create the following
symlink:
.../iPhoneOS.platform/DeviceSupport/2.1.1/
pointing at:
.../iPhoneOS.platform/DeviceSupport/2.1/"

But I haven't been able to figure this out.

I had this problem when I got my new iPod touch last week. You will need to 'restore' your iPod with iTunes before things will work. There is an OS dmg file that Xcode is looking for and it doesn't exist on your machine. You wouldn't otherwise need it because your iPod OS is up to date. Choosing 'restore' in iTunes will download this latest OS dmg file and then Xcode will be happy. I wish it had better error messages.

And about the link, yes, you need to make a softlink like this:

Code:
cd /Developer/Platforms/iPhoneOS.platform/DeviceSupport
ln -s 2.1/ 2.1.1
You'll see some other links like that in there already.

You know what I did just renamed 2.0 to 2.1.1 and it worked fine, which all that the soft link did too.

THANK YOU !

I have this error with a device that isn't mine - one of the guys here. He updated his iphone over the weekend, and for some reason had to restore. I needed to update his version of this app and just tried to do so, and got the error this thread is centered on.

So if the updating didn't happen on the development machine, this one, what do I need to do on the dev machine to fix this and be able to update the iphone? Do I need to restore his iphone from my machine? Also - if needing to perform a restore - can you somehow save off a copy of your apps? Must they be purchased again? What's the story there...? Thanks.

EDIT.
I'm thinking that I don't have the new version in my debugging profile selector even, so I need to update xCode on this machine. Is it ncessary to install the whole package again I wonder?
