i am a newbie and till date i do not own ipod touch or iphone, so i want to know what kind of limitations simulator have, is someone could list me all the limitations it would be great help...
like i can't test app with camera functionality..
can i use ipod library in my app and test it on simulator.
can i same songs from within my app to the ipod library and can it be tested on simulator.
Let me tell you first, if you can afford an iTouch or iPhone, just buy it. It will help tremendously in your development.
Simulator has lots of limitations and also can be said overperforming the devices, since it ran on Mac's CPU and Memory which is lots faster.
No camera taking. But you can put some images in the photo library of the simulator to be tested in your app.
No accelerometer. But i managed to hook up my macbook's accelerometer to the simulator. But the axis is all wrong. and the response is VERY DIFFERENT! But it works to get some idea how the accelerometer would perform.

Yes, 2nd generation iPod have speakers, you can listen music without earphone.
Graphics performance varies greatly. My App Volt is very very graphics hungry. The difference between the device performance and my iMac is vast.
Funnily enough the iPhone 3GS is faster
It is very important to have a device. I have an iTouch 1G to test the worst and a 3GS to test the best. I rarely use simulator, except to check language support.
