Determine if a phone is a mobile or landline number...?
Hello,
Does anybody knows... if there is a way to determine if a phone is a 'mobile number' or a 'landline number' ???
I know.. iPhone's Contacts app, allows you to set the 'Mobile' number for a specific contact.
The issue i'm dealing with, is that you could also add a new phone field. Let's say... i add 'Palm Treo', with a mobile number.
Programatically, there is no way to know if that given field is mobile or not.
So... is there any algorithm, database, or something to check this out?
THANKS!!!

If it's country specific, then yes,
In the UK, all mobile numbers (I think) start with 07 (+447) and all landlines start with 01 or 02.
Then the rest is corporate numbers.
I think this is right, anyone here to clarify? I'm sure this is in effect in other countries.

The problem with US numbers is local number portability.

Basically any number, regardless of original registrant, can be transferred across lines. e.g., I could get a number for a landline with Verizon and then transfer it to an iPhone with AT&T.
