Dictionary / Thesaurus API Search

I'm new to the development scene and I hope someone has some good advice for this.

I'm working on an app that needs dictionary definitions and thesaurus synonyms and antonyms. I'm not really concerned about keeping a local copy of all words, a network-accessible solution would be fine. I know there are free dictionaries out there like Wiktionary but I can't find any APIs that I could use to get access to the info.

Does anyone know of some good services (preferably free) that could support this type of functionality that I could implement into my app? I've searched but I'm not really finding anything.

Andrew, Wordnik launched its dictionary API a couple of weeks ago. It's still early days, but it's useful and useable. Check it out.

Thank you so much for pointing this out! I applied for the API. I hope this will provide some of the functionality I'm looking for. Is it good to implement this in a public commercial app without fees? Obviously it's in alpha now but in the future...
