Memory Issue- works on 3GS but crashes on 3G

Hi all,

I've been developing a game on my iPhone 3GS. The game is very graphic intensive. The total size of the png files is about 40MB but everything runs smoothly and never crashed before (the longest I played the game for 30 minutes). Yesterday I installed the app on an iPhone 3G and every time it crashes within 1 minute. Does anyone know if the size of the graphic files is causing the problem?

Also, when I run instruments, in the ObjectAlloc row the maximum size I see is around 2.5MB. How is this number possible when I load about half of the 40MB png files at once? Does the iPhone manage these images somehow to make the memory usage to be so low or am I interpreting this number wrong?

The iPhone 3gs has twice the memory available to apps than the other phones (256mb to 128mb). This is one of the big reasons it is so much faster than the older phones. THe memory could be used up for a number of reasons, try not loading in all the textures, and see if it is still causing problems.
