Default PAID -> FREE -> PAID in the appstore

So, let's say that I temporarily change my app to FREE on the appstore and it quickly moves up the lists. Now, I change my app back to PAID, will this effectively move my app up in the paid lists as well?

I am not 100% sure but I don't think so. I am pretty sure I saw an app last month that did that and it didn't put them anywhere on the paid chart. I think that worked when the app store was new though.

Yeah, I kind of thought so. My app has shot up the lists since moving it to FREE. Maybe it's time that I make a lite version.

Yeah, definitely the lite versions seems to be the best way to go.

I found this blog which confirms that the sales on the free chart don't count if you switch back to paid:

On a side note to this.

Would anyone recommend this strategy, at least to create some interest in your App?

I've been offering free promo codes on my website and there hasn't been any takers and the ones I've added here hasn't turned into a single review.

So what do I have to lose I suppose?

Thanks....that's a very informative article. Looks like I need to take a different approach.

So, now that my PAID app is FREE and is quickly moving up the charts, would it be best if I upload a "lite" binary in place of this full version? This would make it a true "lite" application. Then, I can re-release my full version binary as PAID. And, of course, link to it from the Lite version.

I'm trying not to lose my place in the FREE lists by changing it back to PAID.

Your thoughts?

I think your last idea is the best way to do what you want, it's the only way to keep your spot on the free charts.

Did you check the US itunes store? Cause you do seem to have 2 reviews for your app there.(the reviews are separate for each country)

You could try lowering the app to $0.99 before trying it for free just to see what happens. It might help you get a on one of the charts.
