Question Scanning and Connecting to WIFI networks

Hi, does anyone have any tip on how does on scan and connect to WIFI networks?

I've been searching the whole day and from what i understood for scanning you could use http://code.google.com/p/iphone-wire...80211Functions but that's private and Apple won't be happy if you use it.

And didn't find anything for connecting.

On the other hand there is http://www.aspecto-software.com/wififofum/ what is on the appstore and promises you scanning and a connect button, so it seems it's possible to do it.

Does anyone have a pointer?

I've been searching the whole day and from what i understood for scanning you could use Apple80211Functions - iphone-wireless - A list of all the known Apple80211 functions - Google Code but that's private and Apple won't be happy if you use it.

On the other hand there is WiFiFoFum what is on the appstore and promises you scanning and a connect button, so it seems it's possible to do it.

It seems the only solution for this task is using private api. But I'm wondering how does wififofum works.

Apple has some faults in the review process, if you do only 1 private API call, you might get through, not gurantees though.

But how does Apple know I ued private API if I don't show these info? Which means I only use it internally.

I assume they can use a utility along the lines of ldd to see what libraries your app depends on.

Why does WiFiFoFum still works and WiFiTraker does not? (3.0)

Ok, I admit I'm just envious, because I'm unable to get Apple80211 calls working.

Did anybody find a solution to this? I want to connect to a wifi network in code (using details inputted by the user). The app is for a research project (it will never be released on the app store) so using a private api is not a problem.

Cheers

Patrick
