Add music enhancement to iPod App

Hey All,

So am developing an app to enhance the sound of the music output from iPod app on the iPhone (Kinda like Equalizer, with bass/treble controls). Now, I know Apple does not allow any background apps, so I'm kinda stuck here.

I was wondering if anyone knows if I can access the AudioQueues the iPod app uses and manipulate the data there? Is this even possible? I'm guessing no.
Also does 3.0 have anything for this? I'm thinking of getting the license and the SDK, but no point if I know it won't work..

This is my first post. I don't have an answer for that, but I have do have one suggestion. Please give an option of setting the equalizer setting separately for each ear. People who have been exposed to extremely noises loud like gunfire and/or explosions often have some degree of trouble hearing some frequencies, and this rarely equal in both ears. Thanks.
