Default rtp stream video / audio

Hi,

I'm a little bit confused with the video capabilities of the iPhone ..

Can I display a RTP video stream (MPEG-4 or H.264) in my application ? Or is a file needed ? What about audio ?

Are there some differences about video / audio between the V2.x and V3 SDK ?

I need to have some overview about what's possible and what not.

Thanks in advance

The iPhone only supports "HTTP Streaming" by default, not RTP. This goes for audio or video. "HTTP Streaming" is really just "range requests" to an HTTP server so that portions of the audio or video stream can be downloaded at a time. Tomcat supports these requests just fine.

There are a few apps (QIK has something for example) on the iPhone that support true streaming, but nothing built in.

I don't know if V3 is making changes in this regard or not.

Thanks for overview.

Ok, iPhone has no RTP Stack. But I could use an external one (PJMEDIA) ... and so become the MPEG-4/H.264 video frames in the application.

Would I be able to display this stream without the Movie Player ?

I suppose you could put your own decoder in instead of relying on the built in movie player. I have read that a lot of companies (Sling and others) have had trouble getting applications approved by Apple that do this, but some have made it through. I'm not sure where they draw the line.
