I whacked the OS on this morning to see what it was like. Search being everywhere is nice including notes and music most probably mail as well plus the home screen search, has anybody else found the "Shake to Shuffle" option in the music settings, also me thinks a new Video icon is on the way with the change to the settings image
So I have read in a few spots that I need to register my serial number on the dev site so that it can activate my phone? I want to do this before i put 3.0. but i have been diggin all over the dev web site and have found no place to put this information. Am I missing something?
Also make sure you register your Device ID in the Apple Dev center or you will have problems activating your phone. I hadn't registered my phone and I turned it into a brick for about an hour while I worked out how to find the Device ID (through the Organizer in Xcode) and then register the device with apple.
15 lines of code + IB. Probably a total of 15 minutes for the most basic of things. Will not turn it into a full fledged app. I just wanted to see the amount of skill it required to make. Now I know it requires none.
Oh great. Prepare for the upcoming rush of "send a fart to a friend" apps.
Hi, i'm a one man iPhone developer, and i mainly use my own iPhone for development. I downloaded the iPhone OS 3.0 beta, but in the iPhone OS 3.0 beta software release - Pre-Installation Advisory there are these two lines:
• Use iPhone OS 3.0 beta software for development only. This new version
should only be deployed on devices dedicated for iPhone OS 3.0 beta software
development.
• Updating devices to iPhone OS 3.0 beta software. By installing iPhone OS 3.0 beta software on your Authorized Test Devices, these Devices are permanently “locked” into testing mode and cannot be restored to earlier versions of iPhone OS.
does this means that if I install this Beta OS, i cannot then restore to the 2.2.1 version? This is my daily phone, and if this OS version is unstable etc. i cannot simply restore? O.o
I haven't tried going back to 2.2.1 but I've installed the 3.0 on my iPod Touch 2G. So far it seems pretty stable although it is a bit slow sometimes. As far as I can tell you can still use it to develop apps that work on 2.2.1. Hope that helps you a bit.

I don't know about the option but it is turned on by default. Just play an album and or playlist and shake to shuffle the songs. It will make a beep noise so you know it's working.
I updated my 3g to 3.0 no probs, its already being used as a development device. If I want to add my wifes 3g for testing purposes (p2p) will I just need to add the UDID as per any normal phone that is used for adhoc distribution? or just the debug profile?
the erica article on ars seemed to imply that I'd need to register it with apple? I don't recall doing this on my main phone? just the provisioning profiles.
basically, If I install 3.0 on my wifes current 2.1 3g, will I be able to activate it ok?
Ok, so who else built a simple chat client and is using two phones to talk to each other? Please tell me I am not the only one...
I absolutely love the P2P...It is so easy to use as well...
How do you do something like this in 15 minutes? I've been looking for weeks and weeks trying to figure out how to do something like this. Do you mind helping out a little?

You would have to use the new 3.0 sdk which supports p2p. Previously you would not have been able to do this.
