15 lines of code + IB. Probably a total of 15 minutes for the most basic of things. Will not turn it into a full fledged app. I just wanted to see the amount of skill it required to make. Now I know it requires none.
I don't have any intention to update my phone at this time, but I would like to update to the 3.0 SDK. Ahh maybe?? For those who have already updated, are the older versions of the SDK left in tack? Can you still build with the 2.x SDK and create a release binary for the itunes store?
Anyone who's updated, could you give some information in regards to how laggy the OS is? In the keynote, the only times I saw it hang was opening the Messages and Photos apps. Is it slow all around? Just when opening apps or moving around them or also when typing like how 2.0 was?

It's not "exactly" like 2.0 was, but it's not terrible or anything... Apps are crashing (messages, at the moment) and MMS isn't working, which is a pisser... that's the whole reason i bit the bullet now to get it... Copy paste is pretty cool, and works...
Overall do the people who've downloaded 3.0 feel the OS is stable enough for day-to-day use, for those of us who don't have dedicated development iPhones and plan to use these all the time?

Just installed the 3.0 beta. Awesome. They did very well with their first rendition of the copy/paste functionality. MMS and contact management is a bonus.
I wish Apple had put out their own turn-by-turn directions into the maps app. That would have been sweet....and set a precedent for developers.

I think MMS has to be configured / setup. That is probably why it does not work.
I'm working with AT&T now, they're telling me with the text message plan, mms is disabled. They've enabled mms for me, and gave me a few minutes to try it out, but it still didn't work... waiting to hear back from them on what to try next...
Before everyone freaks out, there are carrier side changes which are most likely required to allow MMS messages to be used.
First of all, currently MMS are intercepted, second of all, they probably have these features disabled because no firmware supports it... AT&T doesn't care about developers...
anyone else see the 'find my iphone' setting in the mobile me settings for your email account? i turned it on.. dont know what it does though.
John

iPhone Apps:
Hate the fact that my second iPhone does not support blue-tooth. The simulator, despite my computer having blue-tooth, does not work for it either. However, at least my original iPhone has the decency to tell me that it does not support it. The simulator just pretends to work...

There are well-known companies (think TomTom) that have already developed full-fledged GPS turn-by-turn apps. Apple knows this and they are correct in thinking this would be time wasted.
In apple's readme when it says only use for development. Does that me that it still can't be your phone, ipod, mail app, and device you use for other peoples applications?

That would be pretty hilarious if it's what I think it is. The phone has CoreLocation, MobileMe knows details about the phone. You lose the phone and MobileMe tells you where it is on a map. Probably not, but hmm...

Saying that Apple had to atleast somewhat test what they were implementing, I'm sure that AT&T is capable of handling mms for the iphones. They didn't just release the 3.0 (even as beta) update without testing MMS on the network.
Now whether those settings are going to be available to us peons during the beta, who knows... still on phone with AT&T, getting in touch with the "iPhone Group"...

IVE WAITED SO LONG FOR MMS AND NOW WHEN I HAVE IT IT DOESNT WORK! WTH!

Lol! I hear ya...
Just got off the phone with AT&T's support. They said the iPhone group there at AT&T has no knowledge of 3.0 or Apple's MMS support, so they don't know what to tell me. Tried to hit apple's dev forums, but those are down...
