I think what he means, and I agree, is that reading a book is the obvious path, I mean you can learn ANYTHING by reading a book, given enough time... he is asking for quick tutorials, sample code, CRASH LANDING course, a shortcut to get your feet wet. Reading a book can be daunting and distracting from the idea when you're all excited about doing something specific.
Sorry, but I think there are no shortcuts here, you have to spend some time learning the API, unless you have a good background on 3D Graphics Math Concepts or some previous experience (like knowing another API like Direct3D), you can't just see some examples and code whatever you are dreaming.
I agree that reading a book is too general, but also the question is too general, what exactly do you want to do with the API ?
