Large Application Icon confusion. Same as app Icon? Used to feature App?
I am going through and getting ready to submit my app.
I need to give apple a 'Large Application Icon' which accord to the developer site:
This will be used to feature your application on the App Storefront. To be featured prominently on the App Store we recommend you provide an attractive, original icon that meets the following requirements
So my question is:
Does this have to be the same image - but large version - of the 57x57 App Icon?
I would assume No, because if this is used for featuring your app, then by looking at the App Store's featured apps you can see that at least some of the featured app images are not the same as the app icons.
However, searching through these forums some people said that Apple rejected their app because the Large icon was different from the app Icon.
Also, Apple asks for the image to be 512x512, but then again by looking at featured apps, you can see that none of those images are a square. So do they just edit the image, or I am missing something?
The 512x512 image is just for use in the regular store. According to others on the forum, if you're to be featured, Apple contacts you for additional imagery.
If I'm not mistaken, I believe they contact you if they plan on putting you in a featured spot that will require extra graphics that are different proportions or whatnots. =)
When I was featured, they contacted me for additional screenshots, not a different icon. If you get a banner, then obviously you will be contacted for one. The 512x512 has to be the same as the 57x57 or you will get rejected.
