I am currently working on a game with an outsourced team and managed to find a great team of developers the first time. If you have little programming experience and are looking for a developer to realize your idea and are considering outsourcing check out some of the lessons I have learned here

I've seen some very mixed reviews of oDesk. One of the more alarming issues is that developers can mark feedback private preventing bad feedback from being seen. I'm debating trying oDesk, RentACoder, or ELance to do some website development...anyone have a personal experience with these and how they compare?

That could be the case but when you are interviewing developers you have the choice to look at all of their past work - and it tells you when a rating is not included or private. With oDesk you can contest a bill as well whenever the work agreed upon is not executed as expected - this gives you way more leverage than other platforms. oDesk does take 11% for hosting transaction between you and the developer. Definitely something to consider as well.

I guess I'll give it a shot. I can afford to risk a few hundred dollars to find a reliable web person. Thanks for making your experiences with them public.
