Default Working with USB devices using the camera connection kit

has anyone done anything involving communication with usb devices ?

Id like to write an app to communicate with a USB device. The device is the 'teenage engineering op-1', it is used to make music, and all the sound files are stored on its nand flash drive. One of its big features is its 16 hour battery and hence its portability. Unfortunately the nand flash drive is small, the app id like to write would make the iOS device kind of like an external drive for the op-1 so i could store sounds and recordings on my phone/ipad instead of having to sync with my computer.

If you ignore all the syth jargon, the device will simply look like a USB drive to my mac or pc. So my problem set basically boils down to communicating with a USB drive over the camera connection kit.

wondering if anyone has blazed this trail before ?

As I understand it, Apple does not let just any developer use the USB interface in iOS. You have to apply for and be accepted to their hardware developer program.
