Default Video Stream Question

Hi all,

Does anyone know if this is possible to do or not?

Take an incoming camera stream, and then determine if certain shapes appear in the video - and if so, pass back the coordinates for the thing?

For instance, if I'm looking for rectangles (possibly a trapezoid/trapezium due to camera angles), recognise it, and pass back the x1/y1, x2/y2, etc, coordinates.

The reason for the coordinates is to then manipulate what you see via the use of a Camera Overlay.

Cheers,

Jase

If you go look at the ZBar project, you can see that it's possible to scan the video for bar codes. I don't see why shapes would be any harder.

Having said that, developing such an app from scratch is pretty hard. Unless you are an CS grad student, you are probably going to need to find some code for recognizing shapes, and port it over to the iPhone. I found a few from Google, but I have no idea how good they are.

Now why didn't I think of that? I guess it sometimes just takes an extra brain to look at the problem from a different perspective to point out the obvious.

Thanks. I will go and look at some bar code engines to see how they work.

Cheers,
