Dear Nice Forum People:

Hi. After some time of looking around and asking around – I came across your “community” – and thought what a great place to ask questions and maybe get some help. [if anyone will take my case].

Who am I: I’m nobody. Jane Q. Public. I’m no iphone developer or computer software engineer. But I am computer savvy and creative.

For months and months now, with the APP craze, I keep seeing phrases like: “TURN YOUR APP IDEA INTO CASH.” --- Believe me, it’s not that easy.

I’ve had this cute APP idea swirling around in my head – I keep coming back to it…

I’ve learned, if you do not have a “med-to big budget” – no “company/developer” has any interest in meeting with you….

I have no budget. But I do read where Freelancers have reasonable prices for hourly consultations.

My journey started off when I asked my “computer guy:” “I HAVE THIS REALLY CUTE IDEA FOR AN “APP” – DO YOU KNOW ANY IPHONE APP DEVELOPERS AND WHAT ARE THE PRICES…WHAT SHOULD I DO…?? He said: “I don’t know personally any iphone developers, it's not that expensive anymore – you should look for a "LOCAL" developer [in your area] – meet with them face to face. -- You need a disclosure/write down your idea – time stamp it – send it to yourself – in case of unscrupulous people [GASP] wanting to steal your idea.”

I want to know if my APP idea is "APP-WORTHY." I’m looking for a local freelancer in the NYC area.

I’m hoping to put my idea to ‘work.’ I….think it’s cool. I know I must be the 8,450th person that has come here and stated they have a cool APP IDEA…well – I WON’T know if I’m wasting my time thinking about it – or if it can be turned into something ~~~~~> PEOPLE will enjoy using!!

As you're in the United States you could always go on the famous Kickstarter website (assuming its a creative project) and raise funds that way.

If you're worried about your idea being stolen, I would look at seeing if there are free classes, seminars on protecting your intellectual property. I don't know of any real cases where a person/bed-room developer has actually gone to the trouble of protecting his IP, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't dismiss it.

I would also strongly recommend getting a visual representation of your app done, use Balsmaiq Wireframes, use Keynote + Mockapp, use Photoshop, or even use Pencil and Paper. Do something to document your idea, visually lay it out from one screen to another -- that way when you go to a developer you are not charged an arm and a leg, plus you cut the cost of "discovery" because you've already done the hard work yourself.

Hi Zardon. Oh i definately know to "visually" lay it out - i did......because it's visually fun and PART of my idea. i did it the old fashioned way -pen & paper........thanks so much for your input !
