Not sure what this will prove? :O Generally unless you opt-out China every app will be released worldwide anyway.
The truth of the matter is still that China won't pay due to their ancient payment system, credit card is not an option. So whatever fantastic numbers you are seeing, they won't convert.
A _real_ example, from Paper Camera, got featured in some sort of China TV thingie, download exploded.
Total number of copies download from China in 24hrs: 28k
Paid: 43
Yes, you are seeing it right, that's from analytics, we don't have a free version so all 28k are pirated version of the paid version, it's NOT a free -> paid conversion, this is crucial.
Now the striking thing is that clearly the first thing that 99.9% of chinese do when they see an app is go to their torrent site and download it. I mean that was on TV and you would think that average user won't be someone skilled enough to pirate your copy, but here we go, the numbers dont lie.
So China might be an interesting market in the future, not now.

You are right. But the situation is changing. I think free+IAP will be the best solution to solution to solve the problem. Before the most Chinese people to buy apps, I just make some research on this market.

It won't matter, they don't have credit cards setup, they simply won't buy IAP.

/mind blown....
That is just too insane. I knew pirating was bad there but wow that is crazy....
It's not that China's payment system is ancient. It's Western systems havent adapted to China. Modern methods such as Chinabank or Alipay, or more modern systems such as carrier billing are much more common. The US is still ingrained with credit card culture which IS an ancient system.
In Asia, and the developing world generally, mobile money is far more advanced than in the developed world where ancient systems are entrenched.
91 Assistant is the most popular, these tools allow you to easily pirate and upload software in a few clicks.
Thirdly, many iPhones come jailbroken by default from resellers. If not, you just take it to a store and they will jailbreak it for you... why? The reason is not piracy, it's to unlock the phone to use on their preferred carrier.
iPhone is availble on China Unicom who use WCDMA. China Mobile is the largest carrier (600MM+ Subscribers) but they have to use a Chinese standard TD-SCDMA which means no iPhone, so people buy iPhone and get it jailbroken by the reseller, who by default will add the 'alternative' app store into the phone so they can download direct. China Mobile have at least 10M iPhone users on their network.
Lastly, business model innovation is different in China. Many western online revenue models do not work in China. In fact, business models such as Virtual goods and freemium models (think IAP) evolved out of China specifically because people did not want to pay for software outright.

Here's an idea,
if your paid app detected itself is a pirated version, shove mobile ads in it. at least we'd be getting some ad revenue?
Not sure how to do that though.
Payment system requires you to add credit using the various banks available. This means you have to load your 'iTunes' account with cash before you can pay for any apps. Minimum amount is 50RMB, bit of a deterrent considering apps will be around 6RMB. People do not want to load up an account with that much cash.
