Removing universal

I've rewritten one of my universal apps in the App Store completly and i'm wondering if my app will get rejected if I don't submit a version for both the iPhone and iPad?

Yes, universal must remain universal, i got this problem too... Apple rejected my application for this reason (even if your application are free, like mine).

If you remove the universal flag you got auto reject on submit.
If you "cheat" with a message box on ipad like "download the ipad version" you got reject from reviewer...

Somehow logical. Why do you wonder?

Previous buyers must be able to update. You can't change an universal app to iphone or ipad only. That would make the current customers unavailable to play your game, so they would have paid for nothing.
