You confuse Hollywood with Las Vegas. They have built Las Vegas there, because there were no taxes (and there still aren't).

Hollywood was founded there where it is, because in the surroundings you can find any imaginable landscape and because the weather allows to shoot all year.

Sure... US history from Swedish pirate web-site...

They say that the companies moved to Hollywood just because Edison patented a light bulb? The studios could "copy the old stories and make movies"? copyright doesn't apply to the "story" (and never did). You can copy the story all you want.

That post on on the Pirate Bay seems like it was written by a 12 year old.

Besides, copyright/patent law is handled by the federal government (not the states). You can't just move to California and do whatever you want. If they were really trying to circumvent something like that, why not just move to Mexico?

Actually there are stories that Edison would send thugs to harass the movie companies and confiscate their equipment if they didn't pay royalties. Some say that's why the movie companies fled NY. I don't know how true these stories are. Maybe they are, considering how strong the mafia was in NY back then. But it got nothing to do with copyrights or piracy anyways.

Like Promo said, the companies moved to Hollywood because of all the different landscapes and year-round perfect sunny weather.

Actually he is right, it seems.

None the less the other reasons are also valid.

How Pirate Bay uses this story as an excuse, is another story
