I would like to ask those of you whose apps have been approved within last few days. There was a bug in the App Store, if you have changed the release date in the itunes connect to the future, then your app was not in the New Releases list. This bug has been fixed some time ago, but about one month ago people started to say that it's there again. I would like to ask you, if this bug still exists or not?

Big thanks to the person who will answer
i've had several updates approved in the last two weeks... I did NOT change the availability date and they did show up on the new releases list
I'm thinking developers are not wanting to risk testing this theory. Kinda of kills some of the release exposure if the bug still exists.
Hopefully some brave soul will come forward with their results of setting a future date for test purposes.
I'd be great if this issue was fixed AND updates did not appear on the new release. Kind of hard to time specific launch campaigns. I'm also sure developers are updating just for the sake of appearing on the "new release list" which is probably swamping the reviewers with useless updates.
OK so it's better not to set the future date. Should I set the date from the past then? Could someone remind me this?
I think your question is about new apps and not updates. For a release of a new app in November, I had the date set in the future, then pulled it forward to release 4 days after it was approved. I did this when it was approved. When it released it showed up with the new releases from 4 days earlier. That is when I noticed the bug was back. In december when an app was approved I released it same day. I just had an app approved and came to this thread to see if the bug was fixed, but it appears no one has commented on that. The post about updates is irrelevant to the question- though updates do appear in the new release list which is a separate issue.
It appears the bug is still there. I scrolled through some lists of new releases, and there is the ocassional app with a Jan 13th (today) release date showing up with the Jan 10th apps etc. This means someone had set a future release day, had their app approved on the 10th then waited until today to release it.
What you should do with the way things are currently working:
1. Set a far in the future release date when you submit your app 6 months to a year.
2. When your app is approved, immediately release it.
If you set a release date that hits before your app is approved, for example you submit your app and set the release date to the day you submit it, when it is approved, no matter what it will show up with the apps from the ORIGINAL release date you set. If you set a future release date and then it gets approved and you leave the release date the same or set it to another date in the future, the app will show up with apps released the day it was APPROVED (even though the date will show up as the date you set).
Your app will appear in the new release list the earlier of 2 dates:
1. The earliest availability date you have ever set for the app
2. The date it was approved
Hope this helps.
If they change it back to the old system, you will be able to set a future release date and the app will appear in the new release list for that date, but for now it isn't working that way.

Extremely Informative. This actually helped me understand it much better. I was still slightly mucky on the finer details.
I got my app approved 17th Jan 2012, but changed the
availability date to 20th Jan 2012. So it started to be available
a few hours ago, but still was already pushed down to the
other apps from 17th Jan 2012 and didn't ever show up on
top of new releases...
This stupid bug is there. I just released an app yesterday that had a release date of 1/26/2011. It did show up in the new release section of the app store, but it was in line with the other apps that were released on January 20, so it was already way down the list on the launch day. The app was approved on the 20th, but I set a future date of the 26th. A small time app developer like me kinda depends on at least a tiny big of exposure on launch. This sucks.
My app is called 9 Holes, a card game. It's also in the sports sub-category of games.

Just do an update and set it to release on approval. The update will be in the new release list.

Thanks for the tip! I had a small, insignificant bug that I submitted a fix for and was planning to release in a few days to let my launch play itself out. Instead I released the update right away and my app is back up (in spot #12 or so) in the new card games in the US store. Thanks for the advice!

It appears that, as of today, updates do NOT show up under the new release category. I think too many people were abusing the system, self included. Hopefully this is just a short term change.

A short term change? I hope they never include updates in the new release again! What a mistake that was. Good thing it's back to normal. The useless updates were probably wasting reviewers time. And now the new release list isn't watered down.

I can confirm the bug is still there.
- My app had its "Available" date set to the 17th of feb.
- The App was 'Ready for Sale' on the 16th. As the app was not yet live I figured it was safe to set the available date to the 19th of Feb.
- On the 19th the app showed up in the App store but with a release date of the 16th! WTF !
I am considering pulling the App changing its name and re-submitting! Bah !
You have to set the date into the future.
When it is ready for sale, you have to change the date to that day immediately.
You have only one change and only once chance.
It's really unfortunate that this feature doesn't work the way it should.
That being said i'm a little confused as to how all this works after reading this posts. If someone could confirm these following scenarios that'd be great!
Scenario 1:
- Set my Availability Date to 'Feb 20 2012'
- Submit app for review on 'Feb 22 2012'
- App gets approved and Ready for Sale on 'Feb 29 2012'
-- As soon as my app becomes Read For Sale it will appear with that days 'New Release' apps (Feb 29)
--- I'm mostly interested in what happens with this scenario
Scenario 2:
- Set my Availability Date to 'Mar 3 2012'
- Submit app for review on 'Feb 22 2012'
- App gets approved and Ready for Sale on 'Feb 29 2012'
-- The app won't appear on the app store until Mar 3. But on Mar 3 when checking in the 'Release Date' tab your app will be all the way down with the apps released on Feb 29
That's what i'm getting from reading these posts...pretty sure they are correct but if someone could confirm.
Thanks!
EDIT:
I know people are saying to set it really far into the future and then change to the day it gets approved, but I don't wanna be caught where my app gets approved and i'm either not at home that day or can't change it until the next day or 2.

As a developer it is your responsibility to do everything in your power to get your app published as smooth as possible.
Apple doesn't care about your app or release.
I always set the date 7 days from submission. That is the most accurate number for the needed time. It mostly works. If not, then you have to get to an internet coffe even by risking your life to look after your release if you are not home. That simple...
Yeah my game just got approved on the 18th and I set my day to the 19th. I immediately set it on the approval date but it showed up on the new releases today so the bug may still be there.

If you do scenario 1 then your app will appear with releases from the 20th. That is the whole point of setting the release in the future. Get the OTC mobile app and you will get push alerts when your app changes status. If you could just set your release on the day you submit and have it just appear correctly on the day of approval there would not be so much confusion and threads on the subject.
There should be something like "make this App available as soon as it's approved" like there is with updates. I don't get this at all. They don't know how to fix this bug or what? Maybe it's some kind of conspiracy
This **** is too annoying... THERE IS NO BUG. I god damn submitted my app on february 13th, got approved on february 14th (expedited) but my release date was february (CORRECTION Not 15th, but 16th even further.)16th.. so guess what? When it was released it showed up with the february 16th apps.
If someone says there is a bug then they obviously dont know what they are talking about. I got my app released 11 days ago, this is the most recent information you can get so far so stop crying about bugs because they dont exist.
Just for clarification... LEARN2MAKE feeds people totally wrong info, when my app was in review he told me about this bug, I was freeking out and then domele told me there is no bug. And guess what, there IS NO BUG. So relax and
LEARN2MAKE
STOP FEEDING people false information its annoying as hell. release a new app and see for yourself or stfu.
BTW MARIUSZ Nie sluchaj sie tyh debili, polowa z nich nie wie o czym muwi lub co to jest xcode
