Smile salary survey

Are there any good resources out there crunching iPhone/iPad / mobile app developer salary data?

I work in the north east and support customers in the NYC, greater NJ & Philly markets. Multiple customers (software development companies) have approached me requesting cost info for mobile app developers, specifically iOS professionals:
junior 1-3 yrs developers
mid- 3-5 yr developers
& senior developer / architect

For greater NJ does anyone have any target figures? What would the city premium be, industry average of + 5-7%?

Thanks!

I am working in NYC and I get a lot of offers from other places in NYC.

In NYC you can add an additional 10K-20K to compensate for city tax, commuting, and aggravation so other cities are little lower.

Entry level iOS developers (1-2 yrs w/apps in the store) can expect 100-120K

Mid/Senior can get up to 150K

Freelancers can get $75/hr easily. Freelance agencies are charging $150/hr to the clients.

This is for non-game work. Usually involving databases and apps connected to some back end server for something.

or if you are talking about how much money iphone developers get paid in revenue from their own apps... its about $1 / 6 hours of development work.

I don't think there would be many developers if that was indeed true. Working 600 hours for $100 profit would be slightly insane.

Wow, way higher than in Belgium.

Those number seem to be close to what you'd expect in SF/Bay Area. Although the money seems awesome, you have to consider the cost of living for each area as well. NY has pretty high tax rates and overall high cost of living.

You'd be surprised how many developers spend 4-6 months on a game for it to sell 3 copies.

I can also confirm that in NYC entry level app developers make a little more then 100k in a non game setting. There is a lot of demand here for that skill so pay is really competitive.

It sounds great. Could you please advise how to look for freelance works in US?

Everyone believes that they will be successful. You don't start something thinking you're going to fail, yet the reality is brutal.

Very nice rates. They sound similar to the contract rates here in the UK. In general, permanent roles here pay a lot less.
