Default Developing iOS Application Price

Hello,

I have been researching on what the average developer charges for an application to be built. But they are not all clear answers and I would like to hear from developers who have experienced this before. I would like to Tell you what I would like this application to do, and it would be great if someone could give me a guess on what it would cost. I need to get an idea.

For the application, I would like it to be a recipe type application for the iPhone and iPad. This application is most likely going to be made for a big company. But I would like it to do

1. I would like it to display at least 300+ recipes
2. Display videos of the recipe being made
3. Having a shopping list to add certain ingredients
4. A favorites list of all the users favorites recipes
5. Emailing certain recipes to friends
6. Searching function to search all 300+ recipes

There are other little things but this is what the main idea would be. I would appreciate any feedback on what you guys think.
Thanks

It really depends on the skill and expertise of the developer, his geographical location, complexity of the project and details, etc. Expect to pay around $50/h for a good developer, and twice or three times for really good freelancers in western countries. The choice comes down to how much you want to spend, how well you want the app done, and how quickly. You can find someone very cheap, but don't expect it fast and well done.
As for your specific app idea, by what you described, it does not look like a very complex app. If I had to ballpark your idea, I'd say somewhere between 120-150 hours, but without detailed specifications and functional requirements that can be just that, ballpark.
Keep in mind you also need a good designers, don't expect the coder to be able to do that. If a coder tells you he's also great at design, he's most likely either lying, or not a good coder

Personally, I determine how many days work would be involved and charge $140/day. I may be undercharging, but I'm never short of work and earn a decent amount.

In Poland, the average price is what ChrisMayer said.

Expect around a month, or two of work for a good app. Don't forget that publishing the app is just the beginning, usually you'll have to spend just as much on app updates (because users will want things you didn't expect, or nobody will download the app & you'll have to update it.)

So, the total price, if you outsoucce to eastern Europe, or asia is around $10-$15k for a quality app, you might make it for as low as $1500, but the quality will be very poor.

Definitely read this book before hiring a developer:
Amazon.com: Mobilize: Strategies for Success from the Frontlines of the App Revolution (9781593156459): Rana June Sobhany: Books

And keep in mind, that a good app, and a good content is just a half of the equation. It's worth nothing if you don't know how to market the app - do you have a marketing plan ready?
