Your developer should have explained how to do this.
But basically you want to:
1. Open up iTunes
2. Drag/drop the .mobileprovision file (he sent you one hopefully) into the iTunes Library pane
3. Drag/drop the .ipa file into the iTunes Library pane.
4. Connect your iDevice and sync.
Something like the above should do it.
