From previous experience do you notice an increase in sales during christmas week?
This is my first christmas selling apps so I don't know what to expect.
Last year was my 1st Christmas sales season, and the increase was well over 500% . . . But, now there are close to 300% more apps in the store than last year, so I'm not looking for anything close to that this season. (Hoping . . . . . but not looking.)

for 2 years straight I got no increase on Christmas whatsoever. I don't like Christmas, Christmas doesn't like me...

I would say that if we all make 200% this year, we should be very thankful. So if you usually make $500 on a Saturday, then if we make $1000 on Christmas it will be a good day.
I have been on the App Store since 2008 and every year there is a dramatic decline in %. The first two years were 500%+, 2010 was about 250% or so, and this year may be somewhere between 150-250%.
There is just simply too much competition on the App Store these days.
Keep your expectations LOW! If you set them low, you'll be happy if they are higher. If you set them too high then you'll be disappointed for sure.

This year I have learnt how to use a MacBook, make Apps and even found this swell forum too.

While I knew what an app was I did not know how to use Mac OS or have a macbook at the beginning of the year so I feel ya lol.
2009 saw a 1000% increase, i.e. tenfold. Very nice - and it lasted well into April 2010. Last year was a 600% increase, but a quicker settling back down (end-Feb 2011). I'll let you know what this years is in relation as and when the scores on the doors are in.
if current sales trends continue and I get the same bump I got last year for Christmas then I'll blow my one-day sales record out of the water on Christmas Day! But I won't know until the 30th!

i'm also #3 top free but my IAPs are actually generating more revenue than being #1 top paid. freemium ftw!
I think we're all excited for you. We'd love to hear what your numbers are after Christmas if you're willing to share, as it's not often that someone on the boards has a #1 app in their category.
I'm curious to see what your ranking really pulls in. Any estimates? Think you'll top $100,000 during the shutdown?

probably not that much. Total for yesterday was 4K. If I get a 200% bump like I did last year it'll probably net me 12K on christmas day. But I'm hoping the fact that the NBA opener is also on christmas will send me north of that. My best guess is between 30K-40K during the next week.
I got really lucky though. NBA opener is super hyped up this year and pretty much all my competitors got caught with their pants down and didn't release a fantasy basketball app in time due to the NBA lockout, so I pretty much have a monopoly right now.

Who are your usual competitors? I usually only see your app and maybe the yahoo official app, and that's about it.
