I have had bad luck so far with Admob.
Are there any tricks to make it get better revenue?
What other ad networks should I test in my app?
Try Mobclix! The best ad network out there from my experience - I've tried Admob, Adwhirl, iAds, etc and Mobclix has delivered the highest revenue by FAR. Check it out! Mobclix.com

We've been pretty happy with mobclix too. Don't expect to get rich off of ads unless you can drive HUGE download numbers, but the added income definitely is nice.
Mobclix helps us divide our ads between iAds, Admob and a bunch of other networks that mobclix is contracted with. Its nice because for countries without iAds we still have ads served and money made though eCPM usually is a bit lower.
Oh, I almost forgot to mention- the Custom Ads in Mobclixs are VERY EASY to use, and a good way to advertise your other apps. We use affiliate linking so we get some affiliate revenue from clicks even if the users don't purchase our apps but purchase something on the App Store in the next few days.
What is considered huge download numbers? Genuinely curious since I have never used ads for revenue before.
1,000 downloads a day translates to $1-$5 ad revenue a day across iAds, Admob and the mobclix affiliated networks. Extrapolate from there. Not sure others experiences and also we don't have flurry installed to show active users. Most eCPM right now hoovering around $.40 and $1-$2 for iAds.
I would consider huge download numbers to be more than most apps get

I think..You should try Moblix!!!It will be effective to you...
That's an effective first post you have there Somervilley. Who is this MobLIX you speak of? Competitor to MobFox and Mobclix?
I recommend Admob, iAd, Mobclix, Greystripe. Each has it's purpose for us based on the App/demographic etcetera. My personal favorite though is mobclix (especially with the recent autopay features).
Predicting revenue is complicated. It depends on how many people download your app, where they live, how long they keep it, how often and for how long they use it, how likely they are to click on an ad, what ad networks you have, how much they're willing to pay at any particular time, etc., etc.

I have 4 apps that were generating a total of 25,000 impressions per day on iAds. I switched them to Millenial and they are now generating 150,000 impressions per day. The eCPM is one half as much but I am netting thrice what I did on iAds. iAds do not refresh often enough since they lower the refresh rate depending upon inventory.
Have you used mobclix for promoting your own apps, is it any better than the rest (iAds, Admob etc)?
Nope, never used any mobile ads to promote any apps- except our own custom ads for free on mobclix to advertise our various apps within our other apps.
Currently making much more on mobclix and admob than iAds, though none of them really make that much compared to app sales.

With the growing trend of free apps I don't think that paid apps necessarily generate more money for developers.
I can tell from personal experience that if you integrate ads properly and you have good traffic in key countries you can make thousands of dollars per month.

For us we've had much more success with paid apps vs. ads.
I can tell you from personal experience that you can make thousands per week with paid apps. I know there are many on this forum who do thousands a day with paid apps. I'm sure that is possible with ads also, I was just stating from my own personal experience that I find it easier to make more money from app sales.

Wow, that is very interesting.
From what I heard, the thing with paid apps is that they start experiencing decline at a certain stage. Developers I work with usually try to spot the point of decline and then either release a lite version of the app or simply turn their paid app into a free one.
Ok, can someone help me about Mobclix? Do they just bundle different ad networks? What do they charge for that (or keep from the revenue)?
Hi Xaron -
Yes, we aggregate 40 networks and optimize to give the top contributors first chance to serve impressions. We have a deal cut with the networks to take out of their share, so it won't cost you anything to work with us.
Give me an email adam(at)mobclix(dot)com and I can get you in touch with someone to help answer your questions and get you started!
I would to hear some stats or case studies. At the moment I make around 100 a day just on ads from admob just wondering will it be like 300 on mob lid? Cuz that be awesome.

Your 3x figure could actually be realistic. It depends on your app though, the traffic, the audience, the CTR etc. One of our apps for example got about 12-17 cent CPMs on admob. The mobclix traffic goes anywhere from 3x to 5x that figure (on average) for the same app after we switched.

As pluto said, it really depends on many parameters.
You can give inneractive a shot. We work with over a 100 ad networks, including adMob. We partner with Admob and all of their competition so when there is an Admob campaign, we will serve it and if not, you will get an ad from one of inneractive's other ad partners.
