Thanks for sharing the data. It falls in line with what I've seen as well. House ads are often 2-3x the ctr of outside networks. Obviously the reach of house ads isn't the same.
Imagine if you had a $100,000 budget for admob. 20k installs maybe?
You need big marketing budgets to get any lasting effect from your ad campaigns in big networks.

I think that a Pay Per Install advertising model probably makes more sense for everyone. Too many apps are using an accidentally click on ad model, where people accidentally click on their ads and then close whatever comes up. When marketing campaigns show little effect, the mobile advertising market will dry up.

I disagree. There are quite a few brands that advertise not just to get clicks, but to keep brainwashing the masses and keep their brand name fresh in the minds. A shift has happened where people are spending a lot of time in mobile apps and tablets when they used to spend that time on computers or TV. Macdonalds and Dove Shampoo now need to bring their stuff to apps to keep up with the times. App advertising may die off and evolve in other ways, but some old-school advertising is gonna stick around.
