Default iTunes Connect - Banking and Tax forms for UK resident

Hi Guys,

Does anyone have experience filling in these iTunes Connect Bank and Tax info as a UK resident?

I have heard differing opinions on filling out the tax form. One posting I read said that you need to fill out an SS4 form, then make an international call to the IRS in the US, after which they will give you an EIN (whatever that is!) after which you can fill out a "W-8BEN" form.

Sounds complicated! :-(

However, another posting suggests that you:

Enter nine zeros (000000000) in the space provided in section 6. In addition, payments from the USA App Store will not be reported to the IRS on form 1042 at year end.

Ok so has anyone actually done this from the UK who can share how complicated this was to setup??

Also, another question I had was the Bank details. I work as an IT Network Support contractor, and have a limited company. The company I am working for pay my salary into the limited company, and then I pay myself dividends and do an annual self-assesment tax form. For my limited company I have a bank account with Cater-Allen (who I believe is run by Santander)

It would seem to me to be more "tax effiecient" to pay into my limited company this way, rather than simply typing in my personal Lloyds TSB bank account details.... but either way, do I specify in the tax form I am a "sole" trader or a Corporation? - there does not seem to be an option for Limited Company?

All you have to do is fill out the W-8BEN. All this is doing is declaring that you (or your company) does not reside in the USA for tax purposes.

The W-8BEN is very simple and is done online via iTunes connect, in the Contracts, Tax, and Banking section.

Yes, if you already have a limited company set up you certainly should use it. You will need to create an Apple developer account in the company's name, obviously!

However, you can't use Cater Allen with iTunes Connect because they don't support receiving international electronic bank transfers (ie: they can't give you an IBAN number). I had to move my business bank account from Cater Allen for this reason.

Thanks for your response. The company I use for accountacy for contract work (Churchill Knight) is suggesting that if I move to another Account, it should be HSBC.....I dare say that's because there is some referral "money making" opportunity for Churchill if I move to HSBC!

Which account did you switch to out of curiosity?

Also, I think I opened my iphone Dev account just as an inidividual. Do I need to opn another dev account or can I upgrade?

I don't like HSBC at all... but I must admit that all the payments received from Apple have been always bang on time!

You can switch from a individual to a business account. It's completely free but it takes some time and a couple of calls to Apple.

I am a newbie iOS developer and I was a bit concerned that Cater Allen don't accept IBAN payments, upon checking though I found this.
