Correct 'Available On The App Store' button

Hey everyone,

I'm putting together a website for my iPhone app and was wondering what the correct usage for the 'Available On The App Store' button was.

Is it acceptable to use any button in any format / theme on our website which links to our iPhone app? Or do Apple have any rules / recommendations on that regard?

Incidentally, what would be the correct way to get my hands on the official Available On The App Store imagery? Any way I can for example download it from Apple?

I've seen and heard different views on this over the web, and am looking for a solid answer, preferably with some facts so I can present it to my client.

You can get the artwork from here -

But you need to log in to your apple developer account.

From what I see, using these images / buttons are optional right? (i.e. we can use totally custom App Store link buttons on our site)
