It's been a while since I introduced any new apps but I'm releasing a few more shortly. Wanted to create a resource for new/returning app devs for the basics and must do things for app promotion.
darn't sorry mods, clicked the wrong forum, can you help me move to the promotion forum, thx!

This Color app...while it seems like a cool technical exercise, I don't get the purpose. Why would I want to look at the photo streams of everyone else near me? Most of whom are probably looking at the same thing? The chances that you are within 150 feet of another human using the exact same app at the same time are pretty slim, unless you're on an airplane and the app is Angry Birds.

I'm more amazed by the amount of funding it received than the app concept itself. Still pretty cool though. Maybe if it's constantly running in the background?
I guess it's just another excuse to start a conversation with those next to you.
eh..VC backed startups just isn't my thing. Investors are just another boss. Much better to be a bootstrapped indie dev imo.
I was thinking the same thing. totally agree... It's the same thing as just getting employed with stock options (but with much more responsibility and headache).

It's the next step of scamming big investors with silly ideas.
What uploading a geo codeded picture on a server? Are we kidding?
$41 Millions for that??
I bet the guy must really run away now with the money before the investors catch him... The app is ridiculousy bad designed, not much in it, very not intuitive and completely useless, or rather, there are already 40000 thousands apps that do the same thing... Sharing pictures. And I can clone that in 2 days.
I really thing the guy must run now. And all the reviews the he paid to generate hype, they are all so sad.
And the saddest thing of all, Apple fell for that and featured the same day of release.
Here's their privacy policy..I know I will NOT be installing or using their app..

Not even with a piece of tape over your camera lens? And something to muffle the microphone (at least according to the tech crunch article)?
I'm withholding judgement on the app for the moment. Everybody's either a voyeur, an exhibitionist, or both, right? Years ago I wouldn't have thought this app worthwhile, but that was before the advent of Survivor and its brethren.
It's either going to be very popular or it's going to turn into Chat Roulette whenever you're within 150 feet of a restroom stall. Maybe both. At least you have to be voluntarily running it.
Color is also making use of every phone sensor it can access. The application was demoed to me in the basement of Color’s office — where there was no cell signal or GPS reception. But the app still managed to work normally, automatically placing the people who were sitting around me in the same group. It does this using a variety of tricks: it uses the camera to check for lighting conditions, and even uses the phone’s microphone to ‘listen’ to the ambient surroundings. If two phones are capturing similar audio, then they’re probably close to each other.
