We've all speculated on when the Verizon iPhone will/may be launched, current internet rumours are an announcement this month...
However, upon logging into Twitter (as someone who posts about iPhone probably more often than not), a promoted 'who to follow' entry of Verizon Wireless USA (@VZWOffers) appeared...
Coincidence?? I'd bet something is going to happen within weeks
I think it will make a very large difference, Verizon is the largest US cell phone network in terms of subscribers, 93 million or something like that, and I personally know quite a few people who would immediately buy an iPhone if it were available on Verizon.
I think the day Verizon gets the iPhone will be like a second Christmas for developers as far as sales go
I am in full agreement with the above statement. I know of untold amounts of people that are dying to get an iPhone but refuse to have anything to do with AT&T. The day it comes out on Verizon I will be there and so will several of my Family members.
Christmas in January, this is going to be great...
It will make huge difference in iPhone sales, but will it make a difference in OUR sales? I do not have an iPhone because I am with Sprint. But I DO have an iPod touch. No developer has missed a sale from me due to my lack of having an iPhone, and if I were to get an iPhone I wouldn't be buying any more or any less apps.
I think there will be an increase, but I'm not convinced it will be a large increase. I have a feeling that a lot of people who want an iPhone already have an iPod touch. I could be way off base though. I guess time will tell.
I agree with you HemiMG - when the networks all opened up in the UK (after it had been exclusively on O2), there was an upward trend for a few days, but nothing massive.
Not that I'd mind any increase at all, it's all food in my 3 kids mouths when push comes to shove!
However, 93 million as a userbase may skew the figures and it'll be like a treble Christmas
I think it will have a slight upturn. Sales (not just mine) in the UK went up when O2 lost their exclusivity, so I can imagine there'd be a similar reaction in the US to a 93million subscriber carrier getting the iPhone!
Won't be massive IMO, but I think there'll be a slight bump.

I'm not so sure. I think it will be pretty significant. A lot of people in the U.S. have been waiting on this for a long time.
I don't know if it is going to have the Christmas effect though, due to the fact that on Christmas, people not receive their IOS device but they usually get 25-50 bucks worth of Gift cards to go along with them.
I do believe that we all will see an increase in app sales but I don't believe it will be comparable to Christmas.
>>>>>>Crossing Fingers and hoping I am WAY WRONG!!<<<<<<<<<<<<<
I'm in the "slight bump" camp. The majority of Verizon subscribers (like myself) probably either already have an iPod touch or will be transferring over from AT&T.
The only real metric that matters is "number of new iTunes users". We've already seen from this past Christmas that additional iOS devices seem to be sharing iTunes accounts, so we're already starting to hit some sort of saturation point. Certainly this number will grow with the Verizon announcement, but we're talking maybe a few million out of hundreds of millions of existing users.
Though it's first, Verizon does not have an exclusive contract to carry the CDMA model iPhone, Cook said. Which means we can likely expect announcements from CDMA carriers in other countries in the next few months.
So there could be even more carriers soon. Could this also include other US carriers such as Sprint, Cricket, or even VOICESTREAM! (last one was a joke- I think my first cell phone was on voicestream in the late 90s).

This means Sprint will most likely get the phone soon.
Just signed up with ATT in October, so I'm gonna wait til the next generation phone comes out hopefully this summer to pay the ETF and make the switch.
ATT service is dismal for us- barely serviceable, Verizon is very strong. Will be interesting to see if there are the same data usage overload and dropped call issues on Verizon that ATT has been plagued with.
On a side note, for us our US sales are 55-65% of total fluctuating. No localization at all- only English, although the apps are visual versus text heavy. Maybe that makes a big difference. Plus we used ispreadnews.com to request reviews and pretty much only foreign app sites actually did reviews so that got the app in the door in quite a few countries. (Italy, Poland, France, Mexico off the top of my head)
More iPhones in the US, and more carriers both here and abroad can only be a good thing for app sales!
None. Everything is in English. I always thought people would have similar numbers for international sales b/c of iPhone sales growing outside of the US.
