offer an app for free if it is on itunes and paid?
Hi, is it possible to submit an app to itunes and sale the app for a price, and then place the same app on a website that you own and give the app away for free?
I see many websites that sale apps, how is it possible?
When I read the apple terms of agreement they pretty much say you can only submit the app to apple for itunes.
Anyone know how the others accomplish placing an app on a website?

Can you not do both?
The only way you can sell apps legitimately is through the app store. Non jailbroken iPhones cannot run apps any other way other than getting them from the app store.
With iOS 4.0, you can do AdHoc Distribution over a website. But you have to register each users unique ID, and each developers account can only have 100 total unique IDs.

Can you tell me a little more about this method? I am very new to all of this.
How do I begin to set up the adhoc distribution? And it sounds like if they register the number I can only have 100 unique numbers, thus only giving out the free app 100 times total. Is that 100 unique per app or just per developer? thanks for any information.
It's 100 unique ID's per developer within a given year. And Keep in mind it's unique devices, so if you upgrade your iPhone, it's a new device, even if its the same phone number.
Setting up for AdHoc distribution is like setting up for the App Store, it's just a different profile. You give your users 2 files, the profile and the app, and they sync them with iTunes. Or if they are on iOS 4.x, you can put the files on a web server.
The iOS provisioning profile on the developers site has step by step instructions for everything you need to distribute to iTunes users.
