For our first game, Paper Ninja, after launched, the ratings are kind of weird and I am wondering what's happening and would like to share with you. This happens only in the USA App Store.
Immediately after we launched, we were in "New and noteworthy" and 5 stars rating start coming in. However, after 3 days, 1 stars rating starts coming but we think that's ok since there is definitely people who don't like our game.
Then weird phenomenon, after that, for every 5 stars that were given, a 1 star rating follows. And after just 9 days, we got 47 5 stars and 47 1 stars and the middle stars got less than 10 ratings!!! It become like a C shape and we thinking, is our Game really a "Love" or "Hate" relation?
It seems to be that way with many of the apps in the app store. There is almost always an equal number of 5 star and 1 star reviews, and a small number of reviews in the middle. I have a couple of apps that are rated very highly, but most of mine are the same way, lots of 5 stars and lots of 1 stars. At least with the rate on delete thing gone, I'm seeing less 1 star reviews, at least early in the release of the app.

I did a litttle browsing thru your apps. But could not find one in similar situation. Can you direct me?
Hmm, I hadn't looked at my reviews for a while, it looks like the ratings leveled out a little. Booze Runner, Dream Waker, and G-Clock all used to suffer from ratings like that. Drag Tree is the only one that had consistently high ratings. The others are new and do not have average ratings yet.
Still, it seems like many of the apps i look at have equal 5 and 1 star reviews with fewer reviews in between. I think people use the ratings as "like it" or "don't like it" without much regard to the shades of grey that may exist in their opinion.

All reviews I've gotten have been like this:
1: (If there's a review at all) "I like [OTHER APP] better" or "It doesn't do [THING THAT APP NEVER CLAIMED TO DO IN DESCRIPTION]" or "Doesn't Work" (and no further information is given to help diagnose, nor are any crash reports available in iTunes Connect)
2-4: "I like it, it'd get [X + 1] stars if [FEATURE REQUEST or BUG FIX FOR OBSCURE CONDITION]"
5: "I love it!"
I don't think I've ever had a review that didn't fall into that formula.
