1st iPhone Application (Free Recipe Search) Just Submitted
Hi all,
Just submitted the BigOven.com 160,000+ Recipe Search app to iTunes Connect (October 21st, 2008).
Hope it gets approved in time for the Thanksgiving food-rush!
The application lets you search the BigOven recipe archive, and mark Favorites and Try Soons. It combines with the website to let you post and then easily access your recipes at the grocery store.
There is. Send them an email and they should approve it same day.
Nope.
I sent them a mail and got a very polite reply back about 12 hours later effectively saying "wait your turn"
"Thank you for your e-mail. Contract setup currently averages 3-4 weeks due to the number of setups in process."
[snipped boring bit]
"Your continued patience is greatly appreciated, and we hope to have good news for you soon."
I was delighted to receive an email 30 minutes ago from Apple saying my application status has changed to "Ready for Sale".
Excitedly, I dropped by the iTunes App Store (both on my iPhone and on my Mac), and searched for my app.
Not there.
Strangely:
iTunesConnect shows the status as "Pending Contract".
The application is free, and was definitely submitted as free. Supposedly, no contract is required for free apps, right?
I jotted a note to Apple Dev Relations. Anyone else encounter this?
I was very impressed with the turnaround time on the review (I submitted at 2pm today, and got a response at 8:24pm the same day). Unfortunately, the response is erroneous and the application status is now in an undetermined state.

I'm pretty sure they have to approve your free contract, which is put in a queue when you sign up for the dev program and pay your $99. For some reason they have to approve these free contracts, i'm not really sure why though.
But it seems like Apple added some more app review staff or something, 6 hour review time? Thats awesome.
The first time I submitted my application PlaceLnk was on September 26th. After a few review cycles it got finally approved yesterday.
But now it's not listed on the first page of its category when I sort by release date. I just noticed that the release date has been set to September 26th by Apple. Is that normal?

I've just checked iTunesConnect and my Apps state is now ready for sale and both my contracts are now in effect.
So, in short, I will retract my comment above and agree that it is worth emailing them as it seems too much of a coincidence to have just happened that way.
Another step down. I just have to wait for it to appear on the App Store now. a happy developer,
Ivan
I just got the dreaded "Your application is requiring unexpected additional time for review. We apologize for the delay, and will update you with further status as soon as we are able." email

gutted
Good luck. i still havent heard anything from them since i got that letter on October 14th.
The BigOven 160,000+ Recipe application is now live in the iTunes Store.
Amazingly, this app was approved within 6 hours, but it stayed in a "Contract Pending" state for 48 hours because, for some reason, my "free" contract wasn't approved.
A very gentle nudge to the developer programs alias, copying my business contact at our local Apple store, might have done the trick. I also indicated that I'll be doing some PR around it, which is true, given the biggest cooking holidays of the year are soon upon us.
The application lets you search our gigantic recipe archive, but also, perhaps more interestingly, it lets you access your "Favorites" and "Try Soon" recipes that you've published to our site via the desktop. You can also get instant access to over 1,000 tips on food -- from finding the ripest cantaloupe in the store, to the history of cocoa (the food, not the framework).
Like parents, all developers are biased, but I must say, as simple as the app is, it's very cool and useful. I think it's incredibly useful to have one-click access to hundreds of favorite recipes, plus a "Try Soon" list, right at the grocery store.
As far as I know, it's also the first recipe freeware in the app store. (There are several Web apps, but no recipe freeware in the App store.) Will be interesting to see the install rate.
2nd App submitted 19th October

Still waiting this is the 6th day no response
and wrote one nag letter to appdev
Hopefuly its approved soon.
Our first app took 9 days, but with stories of 48 hour approval 6 days seems a lot so far.
Well that was fast... a mere 5 hours later and my app was approved. Now I am just waiting for contract approval. I am hoping that I won't have to go through that for every app I release
I think we hit a new all time record - 2 business days for our new app Snap - Simple Network Area Prober (Snap - Simple Network Area Prober).
We were stunned, but the times have been dropping down and its our 5 app we sent through (includign a few free ones). I wonder if they have gotten faster, less apps are beign submitted (unlikely) or after you send a few up you get put in a "faster" line. Impressive either way.
