I submitted my productivity app on October 9th and it is now pending contract. How long has it taken for you guy's contracts to go through? Does sending an email speed things up?
My app was also a game ... is your game very complex? or uses the cell network to call a server?
It's not complex, i'm fairly new to programming. I think the app is great, especially compared to a lot that i've seen - but by no means complex using things like location, cell networks, or any of the like. I wonder if different categories of games have different queues.
Here's a question: A game I submitted on Oct 6 was approved on Oct 12 and appeared on the store Oct 13.
It appears in a search by name, and in its subcategory, puzzle games.
However, in the general "Games" category, it does NOT appear in the "New" section, even after clicking "See All". In fact, the newest games in that section seem to be from a few days ago.
Does the "New" section get updated infrequently by hand, or is something else going on? Should I expect that my app will ever appear in that section?
I don't even know what the new section is anymore. I just noticed that most of the current "New" apps on the app store home page are over a month old. Also, one of them, "Math Magic"...ugh, so frustrating that something like that gets to the front page. A month old, 2 reviews...I can't imagine someone is handpicking them, unless someone thinks their job is a joke.

Current Status: In Review (obviously)
it'll be interesting to see how long it takes to get approved, being a free game unlike most of the other games. I think that the reason they "batch" similar apps together is to release them on the same day, allowing "market fairness". I can imagine this scenario:
company A submits very detailed Solitaire app on Jan. 1.
company B submits very simple Solitaire app on Jan 6.
Company B's app is simple, and is reviewed quickly, and approved for sale.
Company A's app, although submitted sooner, is release later (because of it's complexity), and loses many sales to B's app.
In this situation, Apple might be seen at fault because it's turn-around time lost company A sales. So I think if they see several similar apps, they put them all in a batch, and release them all at the same time, in order to not give any single app an advantage. That's why you often see 2 or more apps with extremely similar functionality appear in the App store on the same day (you can see this a lot if you subscribe to apptism.com's RSS feed)...
Krap like this pisses me off a bit.. How is that app approved in 48 hours , when some of us have updates in the appstore pending for over a week? Makes no sense... And don't get me started on Apple's crazy policy on an app's "Utility" pffft!!!

*Updates*
2.0 is "For Sale"
3.0 is "In Development"
I submitted an update to my "Pottery Wheel" App on October 7, it's still "under review" - 12 days and no progress. The first update in September, and the original submission in August, each took 6 days.
First app, 'entertainment' submitted october 1st. Received the dreaded "need more time to review" message. no word since then. In total 5-6 different iphones with apple IP addresses have run my app so far. It kind of seems like they won't approve it, though we shall see... All in all, it's been frustrating waiting for 3 weeks now.
I've was surprised to get a "Ready for Sale" email this morning (21st) for my first submission, a puzzle game called Dynamate, which I only uploaded on Sunday (19th).
Trouble is I am now stuck in a "Pending Contract" state The contract was done a couple of weeks back - if there was only a way to hurry this on...
