How is the content "publicly available"? If by that you mean it is on a website, that does not make it public domain. Most websites are copyrighted unless they expressly say the content is free to use.

Yeah, public domain can be easily recognizable by the owner saying its for anyone to use, or the owner has been dead for 50+ years.

True, but a website like Youtube does not have copyright ownership on content they have not uploaded themselves. Given that the user has uploaded original material that they own full rights to, it is up to the user to determine what he or she will allow in terms of distribution rights. But most of the time, there is no mention of it. I'd go as far as saying that if a user allows embedding on any of their videos, it is implied that they are allowing "distribution" of the video to external sources (i.e. embedding a video in your app for example.). As long as you're not removing it from the host (Youtube), there should be no legal consequences or conflicts.
Which brings me to the question, how does Apple let apps that give you the feature to download and save Youtube videos to your iPhone/iTouch the green light?
But anyway, I don't want to get carried away and take over the original topic at hand.
IMHO, even if a guy uploads something on the net and didn't say anything about the copyright, the right thing to do is to ask for permission first. If you do not ask, perhaps it won't cause problem either. But if the owner comes at you request you to remove it, you must be ready to do so.

Well, they didn't like the pasties I've put on my 3D girl. Pasties were still ok when I submitted the update. But while my update was in review they banned them and so my update was also not really welcome.
Oh well... I've resubmitted the update without the questionable beachwear.

Hey spiderguy. My Lite app also had that kind of review time. I think they deem the Lite apps as less importance? If so, then, both app updates and Lite apps are going to have longer review time then.
Now that is absurd.
Your model is nothing more than a Barbie Doll.
Who would even think sexually, looking at her.
Looks like the net cast by Apple is wide indeed.
Exactly. Like a Barbie Doll. Only that Mattel's Barbie is better detailed than my 3D girl. My app does not have any nippels or any details between the legs. I've left those "details" away, because there is no nudity allowed anyway in the app store.
I think we should now tell Mattel that the Barbie doll should only be sold in 18+ stores. Such a doll is not appropriate for kids.

Reason: Typo
Writing code is not only about writing instructions to a machine / computer, but also about writing something that could be read, understood, and maintained by others. That's why, I like Cocoa.
Getting annoyed with these "will require additional time" emails. That's just a cop out for a pending rejection.
Already was rejected with similar circumstance, so have re-submitted a modified version addressing their concerns.

Now ????
Has anyone had one of these 'extension' emails, and then been approved?
Yes and within 12 hours , but more often they get rejected , that email is because someone cant make the decision on it so sends it higher for review
Yep.. And I'm expecting as time goes on, it's just another way for saying _fail_.
Wonder what they'll get me for this time.. Hopefully I've removed the "depictions of potential violence against children" from my pending game.

Yeah my first app got 2 of those emails and took a month and a half to finally get on the store. Never got rejected though.
So I had 2 apps take only 2 days last week to get accepted. I submitted one Monday, however, and still In Review Friday... Really need it up this weekend.

Let's see how long it takes for them to review it.

That update we submitted that was going on the sixth day, got approved on that day. So 6 days for an update.
And a new app we recently submitted got approved in 4 days...submission to approval.
So, can't really complain.
Thank you Apple Reviewers.
On another note, they really screwed up the feedback on one of our apps...deleted it most of it, kicking it down to 2 stars from 3 stars. And to add insult to injury, it is a paid app.
Not happy about that...and have seen these glitches happen at times.

Hope the correct the problem.
are you sure the ratings were deleted? ratings are reset after each update. in order to see the ratings across all versions you have to go to your app in itunes and click "see ratings for all versions" (or something like that).

I am familiar with that.
In our case, after the update all the ratings and written reviews showed, with the method as stated by you. And total ratings did not change on the iPhone or iPod.
Then a few days later, all the ratings disappeared, leaving just the written reviews.
iTunes shows the same.
Strange, but not unexpected with Apple.
A few days ago, they mentioned the daily report would be late...and the used 02/02/2009 for the red alert.
Seriously, just how much confidence does that give you.
As a Windows guy, I have noticed many other bizarre glitches, mostly with the dates not lining up right.
Binaries for upload will at times have a completely wrong date.
