And then also on the 27th I got this:
We are currently reviewing an app that you submitted for inclusion on the App Store, and want to let you know that the review process will require additional time. We apologize for the delay and will provide you with an update on the status of your app as soon as possible.
I wonder what they don't like... Maybe the pasties I've added? Eugene's "Peekaboo Pasties" vanished from the store a few days after it was approved. I couldn't find any info if he pulled it from the store (which I doubt) or if Apple removed it...
Now I'm waiting for something to happen.
I received that same message two days ago, and I even wrote back to them to see what's the hold-up. They gave me the same message.
Honestly, I only think they send out those messages when something is wrong with the app or they don't want to approve it. Almost everybody gets fully reviewed within 2-4 days, with either approval or rejection. It's been 10 days for me, and counting. It's really pissing me off.

With my very first submission (which was about 9 months ago) I also got a "we need more time to review" email. 2 days later they called me and asked me to delete one sentence from the Application Description. Nothing was wrong with the app itself, it was just the description. I did that and another 3 days later it got approved.
Submitted Lite Version and Pay Version of same app. They were both uploaded within a few minutes of each other, they both went to In Review at exactly the same time. The pay version was approved a few hours later. It is now 3 days later and Lite Version still In Review. Has anyone else experienced a holdup between Lite and Pay?

As someone who was curious to see just how far developers could push the pasties apps, I was intrigued by your comment..."Maybe the pasties I've added"...and also the "Peekaboo Pasties".
So did a search of the pasties apps...and found one where the developer jacked up the price from $.99 to $2.99 and stated at the beginning of the ad...
Get it now while you still can...all pasties apps will be pulled from the iTunes store.
We're working on one that shows a little buttcrack...thong...nothing offensive for Valentine's Day, but now wonder if those will be next. The girls literally in most of those butt apps look like they have nothing on.
I don't mind Apple's censorship, I just wish that they were consistent about it...the landscape keeps changing.

The question is: What do they know that we don't know? Are they so "important", which I highly doubt, that only they get informed by Apple?
I think that the "Girls on the go" people just want to get some attention. "Fear" is always good for sales (at least temporarily).
Apple just let an App called "Pasties Extreme" into the store (Jan. 15th). Even the icon shows a full blown 95% naked tit. And when you look closely at their screenshots then you see that the star shaped pastie was added with PhotoShop. So that's already quite questionable... but still, it made it into the store.
Are these the developers that we have to blame that Apple might pull all pastie apps from the store?
Questions over questions...

Apple is not so consistent now. Back to 1week-10days speed I guess.
New app of mine is still In Review since many days ago.
Today 1 Feb : Still In Review.

Funny thing this app is very simple app.
Mine too, and it's been 12 days from submission to "In Review". My app is nothing more than some UIWebviews that contain YT content and a couple Twitter feeds.

UPDATE: All pastie apps are now gone. Even Eugene's Peekaboo apps are gone. It looks like that Apple starts to "clean up". Let's see how far they go and what's next to be deleted. I vote for those image "image gallery apps". Make 'em go. They are worthless, annoying and are in the end no "Application" what-so-ever.

Reason: Update
I hope they do clean it up... I don't mind the pasties apps, but I think they should have a separate category for adult apps, and allow parents to disable the category. Right now, my kids look through the "Entertainment" category, and half the apps are half nude pictures... why should it be like that? Create a category specifically for it, and let parents turn that category off on kids devices.

Good find
I have been a fan of Krapps for some time now.
This change in policy just shows what a @-hole org Apple is.
Even I could have told them that some of the images would be deemed offensive and was surprised to see it all approved.
Prior to all the pasties and buttcrack shots, Apple would routinely turn down anything remotely offensive.
But WTF...it's schizophrenic manic depressive Apple.
On any given day, you never really know just what is acceptable with those corporate monkeys.
Apple really has forgotten its hippy roots.
Sex, drugs and rock & roll.

Can you please forward this to Apple? I think that's a very good idea!!

I second this. Make a filter for icons with half nude photos in it.

Hah, this just goes to show you their review process is flawed. After two weeks of just "In Review" with no updates (other than the probably automated "It's going to take more time" email), I decided to reject my binary and re-upload it. Within 2 hours of submitting my new binary, I was told that my app was rejected, once again. So basically, it took them 2 hours to go from "Waiting For Review" to "In Review" to "Rejected".
But I've come to the assumption that they do not put their apps in que, but a rather chaotic way of "first come, first serve". Where if you submitted your app first thing in the morning, they'll get to it first thing and fully review it within the same day. If you're that unlucky soul that gets your app pushed over till the next day business day, it would get trampled over all the new apps being submitted overnight till the next morning. I don't know, I may be wrong, and I do hope I am. But what else could explain the gigantic differences we're having in review times? Difference in complexity of the apps my you know what. lol

Why was your app rejected? This might be interesting for us, so we don't step into the same trap.

I think the explanation for different review times is due to they are being reviewed by different reviewer. Some fresh staff reviewer might be slower at making decision (reject or approve). And the senior ones, they have everything at heart so it is fast. That's the only reason I can think of. To say our submission do not go into queue is... not logical.

Supposed copyright infringement. Can't "plug" another persons content without their direct consent and providing "documented evidence", meaning a form of a contract or waiver signed by the consenting parties.

Could be. But I've noticed on several occasions that if you submit your app first thing in the morning (8:00 AM PST) on any given business day they do get reviewed quicker. Again, just my observations.

How obvious was the supposed "copyright" material? When I spoke to an Apple reviewer last week I asked about copyright issues (potentially an issue for an app I am working on) and was told quite clearly that Apple was not interested in being the "copyright police". Unless something was really blatant it would only become an issue if the copyright holder complained to Apple about it, in which case they would pull the app and put you in touch with the complainant's lawyers.

Another example of inconsistency?
It was almost inevidable on my part. I completely got caught up trying to fix what Apple found on the technical side of things that I forgot to deal with the legal side of things. Basically my app features a bunch of UIWebViews that link to an individuals content on the web. I believe that was not the issue though, but rather me using this particular individuals name within the actual name of the app. Even though they did say that, "namely the usage of photo's and video's" were part of the issue, I fail to see how publicly available content would result in copyright infringement. I'm not claiming the content to be mine. I just think it has to do with the fact that I used this individuals name in the application that lead them to that conclusion.
