I submitted an app Monday, and on Wednesday I noticed Apple was testing it (it uses GPS, connects to a central server, so I can tell )
But then I realized I wasn't doing anything when the phone runs out of memory...so I rejected the binary and uploaded a new version on Wednesday and now I'm waiting. Unfortunately they haven't tested it since then. Too bad it restarts the process...
I have no idea if this is true but every time I see someone say they have waited a long time for their app to be approved the same person also states "it's a very simple app".
I have no idea what these apps are but maybe, possibly, they are too simple? Maybe, given the work load Apple has with all the new and upgraded apps, they are giving priority to apps that might be more useful.
My app was my most ambitious yet...it uses GPS, the accelerometers, communicates with another server, has copyrighted artwork, mp3s, blah blah...I was afraid they'd find some nit to pick about the content or UI, but it sailed right through.
Things are speeding up a bit (at least for me). Just had an App update go live after 3.5 days (Reference category). Friday afternoon submission and just went live now (GMT).
That's positive. Still waiting on a new app that I submitted Saturday PM...
An app I sent to Apple on 12/11 went ready for sale tonight, and is currently reachable if you know the iTunes Store Link, not yet in categories or searches.
what's the running approval time for games? maybe a week at current levels? I don't know it seems like they are pushing out all of the christmas themed apps.

Probably right. I had a Halloween app released the week before Halloween, took 10 hours from submission to showing up in the app store.
I submitted 3 apps (2 games and 1 travel) on December 12th. They all just got accepted on the same time (December 17th). 5 days in other words.
Now I'm only waiting for the tax form to go through. I sent it on November 24th and they got it on December 1st (emailed and asked if they received it). They've had the tax form for 2.5 weeks, so hopefully it'll be done soon.
I submitted an app the other day, after finally getting over a few stumbling blocks. There was no app like it before, and then today, I just discovered 2 apps that were recently added with the exact same name.

I hope that doesn't affect my entry.
same thing happened to me.
was nearing the end of our final build and then a buddy said someone just unveiled a basic version of the same game (previously there were none).
hopefully it will result in the better app prevailing.

M.
Well the "lite" application I submitted on Saturday just got rejected (4.5 days). Why? Because I used the Standard refresh button in a way that would "possibly confuse" users.
Guess how I used it? To refresh a view contents! Just because the contents of the view changes does not mean the view hasn't been refreshed.
I wrote the following back to apple:
"The dictionary definition of Refresh is as follows: 'an act or function of updating the display on a screen'. As such my use of the Refresh button in no way contravenes its this definition and indeed the definition on Page 103 of the MobileHig". In fact you yourself (Apple) use the same button in Safari to "refresh" a page. Often the contents of the web page change when doing so. Can I suggest that you rename the button "Reload". This would more clearly indicate that the button is to be used to reloaded the same content"
What's more there are many apps using the refresh button just like I do. The inconsistency in the submission process is outstanding.

regards from a very pissed off Michael.
I feel your pain but that probably wasn't the best idea. They may make you end up waiting another 4.5 days now. Apple are in control whether we like it or not.
The review process is very insistent. Both of my applications:
App 1)
Was approved and uploaded to the store after 10 days.
My first update was refused (after 8 days) because it contained a link to a forum website.
- So why did they approve it in the first place?
App 2)
Was approved and uploaded to the store after 9 days.
My first & second updates were refused because the app icon was apple trademarked. (caused another 14 days of wait)
- So why did they approve it first time around? Both the app icon and the large icon?
I guess they have many people working on approvals and some are kinder than others.

lol. Yes I know. I was too angry at the time to care. Be interesting to see whether I get a reply and now I've made the change and replaced the binary how long it takes to go through submission again.
The problem is although Apple are in control, we at the end of the day are the "customers". We pay a fee to be part of the iPhone Dev Centre. Most of us probably have ADC memberships as well and we all have paid money for our development machines etc.
Unless people start taking a stand, nothing will change. I've sent a note to Steve Jobs as well. I know I won't hear back but at least I feel better for making the complaint.
I submitted my App on Monday - today it's ready for sale. This was fast I guess...
Problem is: my contract is still pending. Mh...
I read about administrative issues here - that one should change the "available" date to "today" when it's ready for sale. I guess this info depends to a valid contract. What do I have to do now? My guess is that I have to wait for contract validation and then edit the date to "today"?

You guess?!? Tomorrow, it will be 9 weeks since I submitted my app, 9 WEEKS!! I've called ADC 3 times about it, and I haven't gotten a single email from Apple about the approval process. All my contracts are in order, this is a free app, and it doesn't do any fancy networking or location stuff.
How are you guys getting 3 - 5 day waits, while I'm waiting more than 2 months? I want to get some paid apps up online and finally get some income. I'm also concerned about the wait time for apps that I do on contract for other companies. I had one company say they wanted the app written and online in 3 weeks. I suggested that might not be realistic.
